Message The reason is because the top copper pads still don't make contact with the rivet screws. The old solder in the feed through holes where the shims are installed block making a good connection to the top copper pads as well. I decided the best thing to do is completely redo the original way the gauge made contact with the board (minus the corroded shims). Same problem with trying to resolder the IC. If not removed, the old solder blocks making a reliable connection to the top circuit layer. The only practical way to remove the IC is to remove the gauge anyway. The whole thing is a tedious process but the final results are very reliable.
